FG Allocates ₦27bn For Obasanjo, Gowon, Buhari, Others In 2025
- FG allocates ₦27bn for Obasanjo, ex-leaders, professors in 2025 budget.

The Federal Government has allocated ₦27bn for the entitlements of former leaders and retired officials in the 2025 fiscal year. Beneficiaries include ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari, alongside former vice-presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, and Yemi Osinbajo.
Military leaders such as Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), and Ibrahim Babangida, among others, are also listed.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Bola Tinubu presented the 2025 budget, titled Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity, to the National Assembly.
The ₦49.7tn spending plan prioritizes defence, infrastructure, and human capital development, with a ₦13.39tn deficit to be financed through borrowing.
Documents from the appropriation bill reveal that ₦1.4tn has been earmarked for pensions, gratuities, and retirees’ benefits. Of this, ₦2.3bn is for former presidents, vice-presidents, and heads of state, ₦10.5bn for retired heads of service and permanent secretaries, ₦13.5bn for retired professors, and ₦1bn for retired agency heads. Additionally, ₦46bn is allocated for civilian pensions, ₦383.9bn for military pensions, and ₦66.8bn for expected retirees.
The budget also sets aside ₦2.7bn for gratuity arrears from 2019–2021 and ₦2.2bn for death benefits. Funds for security debarment allowances total ₦43bn, while pensions for the Department of State Security, parastatals, universities, and railways collectively amount to ₦43.4bn.
Moreover, ₦500bn is allocated for the student loan scheme and social investment initiatives like school feeding.
Since its inception in April, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has disbursed ₦104bn to 613,734 students for institutional fees and upkeep.

An additional ₦250bn has been earmarked for poverty reduction strategies under the Service-Wide Votes and Capital Supplementation category.
