₦70,000 Minimum Wage: Abia, Delta, Osun Other State Governors Reveal Stance
Despite a federal agreement on a new ₦70,000 minimum wage, many states are hesitant to commit, citing the need for further consultations and financial assessments.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that in spite of the recent agreement between the Federal Government, Labour, and the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to set the new minimum wage at ₦70,000, many states appear hesitant to commit to the new wage standard.
Delta State:
Secretary to the Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, describes the decision as “a complex situation requiring a complex resolution,” confident the governor will make an appropriate decision.

Imo State:
Commissioner for Labour, Ford Ozumba, states Imo will pay the new wage if other states do the same.
Ebonyi State:
Commissioner for Information, Jude Okpor, says the state will await the outcome of consultations, highlighting the varying financial capabilities of states.
Rivers State:
Government denies reports of promising ₦80,000 minimum wage, stating it will announce its position in due course.
Kano State:
Government is studying the agreement before making a concrete position; currently pays ₦30,000.
Osun State:
Governor Ademola Adeleke vows not to default on the new wage, prioritizing workers’ welfare.
Abia State:
Governor Alex Otti to meet with the economic team to review the new wage, highlighting financial challenges from previous administrations.
Benue State:
Governor Hyacinth Alia’s CPS, Sir Kulas Tersoo, says the state will not have a problem paying the new wage and will sort out any issues with Labour.
Adamawa State:
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s CPS, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, states the governor has not yet addressed the new wage.
Nasarawa State:
Governor Abdullahi Sule says the state will pay whatever amount is agreed on by governors, having already implemented the ₦30,000 wage.
Kwara State:
Government officials remain mum, with the TUC confident the state will abide by the law once the bill is passed.
