No Official Directive On ₦70,000 Wage Upgrades – NYSC

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has addressed recent social media claims suggesting that it instructed corps members to upgrade their bank accounts in preparation for receiving the newly approved ₦70,000 minimum wage.

Reports circulating online implied that corps members were advised to upgrade their bank accounts, which are currently categorized as Student Accounts with deposit limits of ₦50,000 and savings caps of ₦300.

In response, the NYSC has denied issuing any such directive. Eddy Megwa, the Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, stated that these reports are misleading and unfounded.

The NYSC clarified that it has not received any official directive regarding the implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage or the need for account upgrades. The organization emphasized that no official instructions have been provided by the relevant government departments concerning wage adjustments.

The NYSC urged corps members and the public to disregard these rumors, as there has been no communication from the NYSC or relevant authorities regarding changes to payment or account requirements.

Megwa, said: “Management has been drawn to a misleading information circulating in the media regarding payment of ₦70, 000 minimum wage to Corps Members and the directive to upgrade their accounts.

“This is absolute falsehood which is far from the truth. Corps Members, parents and members of the public should note that no directive has been received from the relevant sector of government responsible for wages matters.

“It is therefore impossible for the NYSC to issue any information on such. Corps Members already know the approved channel and mode of communication in the Scheme and should therefore ignore the directive accordingly.

“The NYSC by this release therefore admonishes Corps Members to desist from allowing mischief makers who are set to mislead Nigerians from continuing to play on their intelligence.
