10-Man Spain Beat Switzerland 4-1 In UEFA Nations League

Spain, down to ten men, battled to a hard-fought victory against Switzerland in the Nations League, despite the final shoreline suggesting otherwise.

The European champions took the lead when Joselu headed in Lamine Yamal’s cross, with Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel unable to keep it out despite his best efforts.

Switzerland’s Becir Omeragic thought he had equalized, but his goal was disallowed by the VAR due to a handball in the buildup.

Spain quickly doubled their lead when Fabian Ruiz capitalized on a saved shot by Nico Williams.

However, La Roja’s fortunes shifted when Robin le Normand was sent off midway through the first half for a professional foul on Breel Embolo. The momentum swung in Switzerland’s favor, with Zeki Amdouni hitting the crossbar from the ensuing free-kick.

Amdouni eventually pulled one back for the Swiss from close range after a corner, and they had another goal disallowed as they pushed for an equalizer.

But the Swiss left themselves exposed at the back, and Ruiz scored his second after connecting with a Ferran Torres cross—Spain’s first shot in 45 minutes. Moments later, substitute Torres sealed the win with Spain’s fourth goal, slotting it into the bottom corner.

Earlier in the day, Denmark defeated Serbia 2-0, bringing them to six points in the group. Spain, the defending Nations League champions, had previously drawn 0-0 with Serbia in their first match last week.
