EKO HOT BLOG gathered that there have been speculations in some quarters that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu might settle for a former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.
It was earlier reported that the camp of the former governor of Lagos State has narrowed down on Shettima who is from the North-East geopolitical zone.
This platform gathered that Shettima who played a key role in the campaign of Tinubu has been penned down by some stakeholders as the ruling party’s Vice Presidential candidate.
It is believed that Tinubu is pleased with the candidacy of Shettima because he has built bridges across all the divides in the country when he was governor and also when he went to the National Assembly as a senator.
Here are 10 things you should know about Kashim Shettima:
- Shettima was born on the 2nd of September 1966 (age 55) in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The former governor attended Lamisula Primary School in Maiduguri from 1972 to 1978

Shettima attended Government Community Secondary School, Biu from 1978 to 1980 and was transferred to Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum where he completed his secondary education in 1983.

He studied at the University of Maiduguri and earned a Degree (BSc) in Agricultural Economics in 1989.

He obtained a master’s degree (MSc) in Agricultural Economics in 1991 at the University of Ibadan.

He won the Governorship election in 2011 under the platform of the now-defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP and was inaugurated on May 29, 2011.

The former Governor was reelected in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Shettima emerged as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum.

He became the winner of the Borno Central Senatorial District election in February 2019.

Shettima is believed to be a supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari’s programmes and policies while he was governor of Borno.
