10th NASS: Northern Senators-Elect Remain Resolute In Their Bid For Senate President

On Sunday night, a meeting was held in Abuja where lawmakers from different political parties arrived at a decision.

At the meeting, a decision was taken to contact their southern counterparts to back their position.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Senators-elect from the North has maintained that the region must produce the senate president in the 10th national assembly.
It was gathered that the lawmakers from various political parties, took the decision Sunday night during a meeting in Abuja, which was attended by 39 out of the 58 northern senators-elect.

Recall that the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had last week concluded plans to pair the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, with Senator Jibrin Barau (Kano) as Senate president and deputy respectively.
A senator from the North West, who preferred not to be named, said yesterday that the northern senators-elect insisted that the senate president should be zoned to the north in appreciation for the region’s support to the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last presidential election.
He said the meeting resolved to reach out to their counterparts from the south to support their position.
