11 Escape Death In Ogun Auto Crash

11 persons have escaped death on Saturday in the Ayetoro area of Ogun State as a Toyota Hiace commercial bus they were in rammed the side barrier on the road, leaving not less than seven of the passengers injured.

 

The injured victims were said to have been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care.

 

It was gathered that the accident was caused by a mechanical fault that occurred while the bus with number plate KTU 970 XS was on top speed.

 

The Deputy Governor of the state, Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who was plying the route when the accident occurred, reportedly alerted officials of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps and rescued some of the victims using one of her vehicles.

 

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said there was no loss of life. He added that the seven injured persons were receiving treatment at OOUTH.

 

Akinbiyi said, “On Saturday, around 11:00 a.m., an accident involving a white Toyota Hiace bus with number plate KTU 970 XS occurred around Ayetoro. The commercial bus was coming from Ore inbound Idumota, Lagos when the driver who was on top speed heard the sound of a mechanical fault in the bus.

 

“The driver lost control of the bus due to the mechanical fault and then hit the barrier by the side of the road. Some of the passengers jumped out of the bus through the window.

 

Fortunately, the state Deputy Governor, Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele and her convoy were behind the bus and she immediately put a call through to the TRACE Corps Commander/Chief Executive, Cdr Seni Ogunyemi, for the rescue of the injured victims.

 

“Consequently, the Mowe-Ibafo Divisional TRACE Command was alerted and the injured victims including three men and four women were driven in the Deputy Governor’s Hilux to OOUTH, Sagamu, where they were received by medical personnel.”

 

While urging motorists to be safety conscious when driving, Akinbiyi added that the vehicle had been impounded and handed over to the police.

He said, “However, the driver was not among the injured victims and the accident vehicle has been taken to Mowe Police Station. TRACE Corps is again using this opportunity to implore the motoring public to be safety conscious when using the road. Motorists should avoid excessive speed and ensure proper vehicle maintenance because of the risk inherent in such conduct and omission.”
