The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has announced the return of 118 Nigerians who were left stranded in Libya
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that they arrived at the Federal Capital Territory in the early hours of Wednesday morning and will be quarantined for two weeks in line with coronavirus protocols.
“118 Returnees (51 Males, 41 Females, 17 Children, and 9 Infants) Stranded Nigerians in Libya just arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 1:30am local time today 17th March 2021 via Buraq Air,” read a statement on the commission’s Twitter handle.
“The returnees will be quarantined at the Federal Capital Territory Hajj camp for 14 days in line with the new COVID-19 protocols by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.”
Due to economic hardship and other social ills in the country, many Nigerians take it upon themselves to move to greener pastures, particularly Europe, at whatever possible cost.
In the process of trying to cross the Mediterranean coast into Europe, they get stranded, sometimes get missing and succumb to death. Libya is the major crossing point and the North African country constantly facees the tough task of managing what sometimes turns to a humanitarian problem.
