12 Auto Mechanics Remanded in Ibadan Over Alleged Treasonable Felony
A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, ordered the remand of 12 auto mechanics at the Agodi Correctional Centre over alleged treasonable felony and other offences.
The defendants face eight charges, including treasonable felony, threat to murder, defamation, publishing fake news, unlawful assembly, and causing fear.
They are accused of threatening to forcefully remove Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, as shown in a video they posted on social media.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, did not take the defendants’ pleas and ordered their remand at the correctional facility pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case was adjourned to January 22, 2025, for mention.
The defendants were also accused of conspiring with others to threaten Governor Makinde’s life in a video posted on December 5 at Olubadan Estate, Ibadan.
They also allegedly spread fake news on social media, claiming Makinde had seized their land and evicted them from their workshops, intending to create fear and alarm.
Opaleye also accused the defendants of publishing defamatory content about Governor Makinde and gathering in a way that caused fear of a potential breach of public peace.
