EKO HOT BLOG reports that information according to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The Director General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, made this known on Tuesday during the 7th edition of the National Identity Day celebration held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Coker-Odusote noted that the figure includes Nigerians at home and abroad, with 52 percent of citizens in the diaspora already captured, and about 85 percent of inmates in correctional centres enrolled into the system.
She said the commission had expanded and modernised its infrastructure both locally and internationally, with over 200 registration centres now operational.
According to her, around 125 government agencies and institutions have successfully integrated their databases with the NIMC system for seamless identity verification.
“Thanks to the upgrades we’ve made, the time taken for NIN enrolment has dropped by 49 percent,” she explained.
She also emphasised that extortion of citizens during the registration process has been curbed.
Reacting to concerns about data breaches, the NIMC boss insisted that the agency’s database remains one of the most secure in the country.
“Our systems are built to global standards. We prioritise security, trust, and data integrity,” she said.
