- 13-year-old Wisdom tortured by military personnel over a false accusation
Eko Hot Blog reports that 13-year-old Wisdom Hashimu, in the Ungwan Maigero Community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna, has taken his own life.
The incident reportedly happened on Thursday, June 7, following severe torture by a soldier and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in the area after he was accused of stealing N10,000 from a neighbour on June 1.
According to a report by Channels TV, the accusation originated from a 16-year-old neighbour named Hope.
Hope had invited her boyfriend, Segun Samson, a soldier stationed at Bodi Camp in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, to her home when the money went missing.
Hope involved her boyfriend, who took Wisdom and her brother to the Civilian JTF office.
Wisdom, who was preparing for his Junior Secondary School examinations, endured a brutal beating from the soldier and the Civilian JTF members.

Wisdom’s father, identified as Mr. Saul, recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “Rather than report to the police, the soldier dragged Wisdom and Hope’s brother, both accused of stealing, to the Civilian JTF office. At the office, Wisdom was beaten so severely that he could barely walk. He returned home after receiving medical attention.”
The situation took a tragic turn on Thursday when Wisdom’s lifeless body was discovered hanging in the family compound on Lafiya Sarki Street.
Mr. Saul expressed his devastation, highlighting the excessive force used by the Civilian JTF.
“Beyond my wildest imagination, the Civilian JTF only beat Wisdom to the point of coma while Hope’s younger brother was spared and returned home unscathed,” he said.
“After interrogation at home, her brother confessed to the crime. When searched, N9,000 was found in his pocket, and he admitted to having spent N1,000 already,” he added.
The family is now demanding justice for the torture and subsequent death of their son.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, confirmed that an investigation has commenced.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the Department of Criminal Investigation to take full charge of the case, and whosoever is involved will be brought to justice,” Hassan stated.
