A 17-year-old girl, identified simply as Rachael, narrowly escaped being killed by suspected ritualists in Ijanikin area of Lagos, as she was rescued from a shrine on Dan Ajayi Street, Alasia, at about 7.30a.m. by some residents who heard her yelling for help.
Rachael, an apprentice with a make-up artist, was sent on an errand that morning when she was reportedly abducted by three men, who subsequently whisked her to the shrine, which serves as their den.
Rachael, according to one of her colleagues, Ego, was in an unconscious state when she was taken to the shrine.
Her words: “She said one of the men touched her with a substance suspected to be charm and she became unconscious. By the time she regained consciousness, she found herself in the strange environment.
“She started shouting blood of Jesus! They were preparing to slit her throat when some people, who heard her yelling, stormed the uncompleted building. They thought the girl was being raped.
“By the time they got to where Rachael was, her abductors had scaled the fence and escaped through the bush. She did not stop yelling until noon, even after she was rescued.
“It was this morning (yesterday) that she regained consciousness and was able to narrate what transpired in the shrine.”
Residents said the fleeing suspects just moved into the area, adding that nobody knew what they were up to because the uncompleted building they occupied was isolated from others.
The matter, as gathered, had been reported to the Police at Ijanikin.
