Epe NUT Holds Induction Workshop For Newly Employed Teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Epe Branch, on Wednesday 17th February 2021, organized a befitting induction ceremony for newly employed teachers by the Lagos State Government under the distinguished administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the event, which served as a platform for attendees to interact, unlearn and relearn the nitty-gritty of the noble teaching profession, took place at the NUT hall situated in LG Primary School, Epe. Notable stakeholders in the Epe Local Government Education Authority present include NUT, AOPSHON, District III Zonal Office and ANCOPPS.

The Epe branch Chairman of NUT, Comrade Julius Adegbuyi Ogunleye, in his welcome address, appreciated the Lagos State Government for employing the recruits. The purpose of the training, he said, was to introduce the recruits to the ethics of the profession, keeping them abreast of the education locality.

“Permit me to use this medium to appreciate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for embarking on the massive employment of teachers of which our graduates in Epe have immensely benefitted and like Oliver Twist, we plead for more.

This programme is specially organised to introduce you to the ethics of the teaching profession and to keep you abreast of the education terrain in Epe. Education District III controls 4 Local Governments Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa and Lagos Island. Epe has 7 Geo-Political Education Zones Epe Central, Pobo Zone, Okemagba Zone, Ketu-Ejinrin Zone, Agbowa Zone, Riverine East and Riverine West. The four Mode Colleges and one Technical College” he said.

He further admonished the new recruits to protect their job and do away with any unprofessional conduct. He also revealed his expectations from the recruits as such that would give quality service delivery to students.

“Teaching is not just an ordinary profession but a noble profession, you must protect it and guide it jealously. My advice to you is that as a young teacher, stay away from illegal collection, respect for constituted authority, top-notch interpersonal relationship with parents, students as the working place is one’s second home”, the NUT Chairman stated.

The programme was also spiced by a paper presentations by veteran educator, Comrade S Adewale Balogun who discussed the historical perspectives, goals and objectives and the achievements of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT.

Meanwhile, the Epe Branch Chairman of ANCOPSS, Mrs Jonah, also appealed to the new intakes to be mindful of their dressing with emphasis on ladies. She also stated that the intakes are lucky to be recruited at a time when the teaching profession is becoming more lucrative.

Goodwill messages trickled in from various groups under the branch NUT such as NUT Epe cooperatives, NUT Epe investment Scheme, NUT Lagos Endwell Scheme, NUT Epe Social Welfare Committee, Muslim Teachers Association of Nigeria (MUTAN) Epe Branch, NUT Epe Elders’ forum. Others include the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) Epe chapter and All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, Epe Chapter (ANCOPSS) and Education Secretary Epe LGEA, District III Zonal Office Epe.

Earlier in the day, the first four teachers who registered at the event which was slated for 10 am, were rewarded with free membership registration for their punctuality. To round up, the Vote of thanks was rendered by Comrade Ayodele Leo who appreciated the new teachers for attending the event. He prayed for journey mercies.
