Re-Delineation Bill: We Must Uphold Our Tradition For Smooth Coexistence – Hon. Olulade

By Babatunde Kaka

A former member representing Epe Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olulade Segun, has stated reasons why it is imperative for Epe Division to retain its status as an administrative division in Lagos State.

Hon. Olulade during the Stakeholders consultation at Epe Club

Speaking after the Epe Division Stakeholders Press Conference organized by eminent political leaders and Traditional Rulers of the Division at the Epe Club House, Hon Olulade, also known as Eleniyan, told EKO HOT BLOG reasons why it is pertinent for Epe Division to maintain its current status as an independent division under the foundational structure of IBILE.
He also noted that what smoothens the existence of a people is her culture and tradition.

“There are things we do here in Epe that can not be done in Eti-Osa. We have the Kilajolu, we celebrate Okoshi, these are our culture. It is important that for the smooth coexistence of people, those traditions must be upheld and that is what has been clearly stated by the leaders of Epe Division”.

Hon. Olulade further exercised confidence that the the bill would not get approved, noting that Lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly are representatives of the people. He averred that as a Lawmaker, he understands the rudiments of lawmaking and he knows that the bill would be quashed since every Division in Lagos State have come out openly to renounce the suspended bill.

Regarding the identity of the sponsors of the bill at the Lagos State House of Assembly, the two-term Lawmaker said:

“We have declared that we want to remain Epe Division with no subtraction and addition. The sponsor of the bill is still very sketchy. It is either an executive bill or a private member bill but none has been clearly stated. We’ve heard a lot of hearsays about the bill and that is one the reasons I felt it is until we come out to say this is our position on the bill. And I except the house to come out and tell us their side so that we will not continue to extend this confusion that we have on the streets of Lagos”.
