Buhari Not Indifferent To Nigeria’s Security Woes – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says he believes his successor, Muhammadu Buhari, is doing everything he could to address the dispiriting state of security in the country.

Ekohotblog reports that the former Bayelsa state governor said this when he paid a condolence visit to Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta state, over the death of his father,

While bemoaning the abduction of schoolchildren and many Nigerians for ransom, he said he was sure his successor wasn’t flippant about the security situation in the country

Jonathan also emphasized the need for synergy between federal government and the governors in order to find a lasting solution to the insecurity bedeviling the nation.

He commended Buhari for his efforts, and asked Nigerians to join hands to make the country safe for all.

“I believe that with the commitment of the governors and the federal government, we will be able to address the issue of insecurity in the country,” Jonathan said.

“I believe that the president himself is not sleeping, and that the governors are not sleeping as well over the insecurity challenge in the country.

“As long as the governors, the president, and all the security agencies can work together, Nigeria will be able to cross over this very ugly phase of societal evolution.”

Jonathan further dismissed rumours of his interest in the 2023 presidential election, saying such comments are speculative.
