EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has delivered and opened the first phase of the reconstruction and upgrading of the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The 18.75 km long stretch of road, which was previously a two-lane rural roadway, has been upgraded to a six-lane rigid concrete carriageway.
Sanwo-Olu also flagged off the second phase of the project, which will extend the construction from Eleko to Abraham Adesanya Roundabout, and will be done in two segments for ease of funding and to reduce the impact of construction on commuters.
The upgraded road is expected to positively impact the socio-economic well-being of the residents and bring relief to motorists.
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to protect the infrastructure from vandals.
The second phase of the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway project will be done in two segments for ease of funding and to minimize traffic disruption.
The first segment will cover 18.6 km from Eleko to Awoyaya and sections around Majek and Ogidan.
The second segment, which is 11 km, will begin at Ogidan and extend to the Abraham Adesanya Roundabout.
The project is aimed at investing in infrastructure that will positively impact the socio-economic well-being of residents.
The expressway was previously in poor condition, causing difficulties for travelers and hindering the movement of goods and services.
The reconstruction and upgrading of the expressway from a two-lane to a three-lane dual carriageway will ease transportation and encourage industrial development in the Lekki Free Zone.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure emphasized the need for a permanent solution to the road’s issues, given its previous deplorable condition and the increased traffic from the recent commissioning of the Deep Sea Port and Dangote Refinery.
The Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, Honorable Abdullah Olowa, praised the governor, Mr. Sanwo-Olu, for delivering on his promise to restore and expand the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway. The delivery of the first phase of the infrastructure project has already begun to change the lives of residents and reduce their suffering.
According to Olowa, the project will further strengthen the relationship between the residents of Ibeju Lekki and Epe. A fisherman and frequent user of the road, Alani Bello, also expressed his appreciation for the reconstruction of the road, saying that it had been nearly impassable for years due to the amount of traffic. He explained that although the work has not yet been completed, the six-lane road has already provided some relief and made their journeys much easier.
