It was a moment of reflection, unity, and celebration of Islamic knowledge on March 16th, 2025, as the family of the late Sheikh Abdul-Lateef Amuni, the first Mufti of Epe Kingdom, organized the 18th Annual Quranic Competition in his memory.

Delivering the lecture of the day, Sheikh Saheed Almubaarak reflected on Sheikh Amuni’s life, describing him as a man of strong faith and unwavering service to Islam.

He recalled how Sheikh Amuni’s brilliance and commitment led to his retention as a lecturer at the prestigious Markaz Agege after completing his studies.

Sheikh Almubaarak shared a moving personal story to highlight Amuni’s faith in Allah. “Amuni lost a child, Abdul-Lateef, and when people came to sympathize, he said, ‘I have given birth to 11 children.

If Allah takes 4 of them, is that too much? But He only took one.’ Years later, he had another son and named him Abdul-Lateef again. This shows his deep trust in Allah’s will.”

Sheikh Anofi Balogun, Chief Imam of Zumuratu Islamiyat Society of Nigeria, Epe Branch, described his late friend as a devoted servant of Islam.

He fondly recalled their missionary journeys, including a time they traveled from Lagos to Benin and returned to Epe on a motorcycle—all to spread the message of Islam.

“He was not just a scholar; he was a friend, a brother, and a leader who sacrificed for the growth of Islam,” he said.

Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Hakeem Shittu, Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), lauded the legacy of Sheikh Amuni and urged Islamic scholars to live exemplary lives.

“Many people learn about Islam through the actions of their scholars. Let us live in a way that brings people closer to the faith,” he advised. Hon. Shittu also pledged his support to the cause of Islamic education and development.

The program ended with special prayers by Sheikh Muyideen Balogun Illaliamaam, who prayed for Allah’s mercy on Sheikh Amuni’s soul and for his family to continue to uphold his legacy.
