Peppered and grilled snails are becoming more accepted in our society. Even though some persons might feel irritated by the sliminess of snails, they are very nutritious and enjoyed as a delicacy in different parts of the world. Snails have similar protein content to pork and beef but their fat content is much lower.
Apart from being good sources of iron, calcium, vitamin A and other minerals, snails are known to help improve heart health and relieve symptoms of anaemia.

1. Heart problems
This doesn’t come from the snail itself but the method of preparation. Snails have low-fat content but cooking them in fatty or buttery sauces increases the fat content of the delicacy. These fats clog the arteries carrying blood and cause blockage after some time which results in heart attack, stroke and other heart diseases.
How to prevent
Do not cook or fry snails in oily or fatty sauces, to reduce their fat content.
2. Rat Lungworm Disease
This bacteria can infect snails when they come in contact with rat faeces. When the infected snail is eaten raw or undercooked, the bacteria can be introduced into the eater.
