EKO HOT BLOG reports that two persons have been confirmed injured in a clash between police operatives and Kalare boys in Gombe on Sunday.
Gombe police spokesman ASP Mahi Mu’azu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said the two victims, a Kalare boy and one female passer-by, have been taking to the Federal Teaching Hospital for treatment.
He said the incident occured when a group of Kalare boys, numbering about 50 from Kwala Street Jekadafari quarters armed with machetes, daggers, sticks and other dangerous weapons, blocked the roads linking the central roundabout and terrorised members of the public.
“On receipt of the distress call, the teams responded immediately, moved to the scene of crime and made effort to disperse the hooligans with the use of minimal force, but declined by the gang which resorted to attacks on the team which prompted the use of additional force on them.
“As a result, one of the thugs ( kalare boys) and a woman who was a passerby sustained injuries and are presently responding to treatment at Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe,” he said.
Gombe Commissioner of Police Ishola Babaita warned all criminally minded individuals or groups against all forms of hooliganism and thuggery before, during and after the electioneering activities in the State.
