Gha Vs Nig: 2 Tactical Blunders Eguavoen Made In 0–0 Draw Vs Ghana
-
Super Eagles Interim Coach, Eguavoen made tactical blunders in a goalless draw against Ghana.
- In the lineup that was published by the Nigeria Football Federation, Eguavoen opted for Victor Osimhen to lead the attack for Nigeria.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Super Eagles Interim manager, Austine Eguavoen on Friday, made a tactical blunder in a goalless draw against the Black Stars of Ghana.
The tactical errors started with the starting lineup. Eguavoen published the lineup few minutes before the match kicked off. Many Nigerians had criticised the lindup before the match started.
In the lineup, Eguavoen opted for Victor Osimhen to lead the attack for Nigeria.
Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina and Sanusi were deployed by Eguavoen in the defence.
There is also the likes of Samuel Chukwueze and Simon Moses as wingers. Joe Aribo and Innocent Bonke were deployed in the defensive midfield position.
Eguavoen failed to learn from what happened in the last AFCON 2021 Round Of 16 tie against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
This is because he appeared to have deployed the same pattern that made it easy for the North African to predict his game plans.
The black stars of Ghana studied the pattern and used it against Nigeria. Massive attack, massive defence.
Ghanaians knew that the Super Eagles’ strength is from the wings.
However, Nigeria will host Ghana at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja for this year’s World Cup qualifiers next Tuesday after Friday’s first-leg goalless draw.
Although, both teams created some brilliant chances but failed to convert them to a goal.
Both teams played a cautious game, trying not to concede first and that swung possession in opposite directions at intervals.
Nigeria’s biggest chance came in the 54th minute after Kelechi Iheanacho put Moses Simon through on goal, but the Nantes’ forward shot straight into the legs of Joe Wollacott.
Ghana had their fair share of opportunity. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s effort in the 32nd went straight at Uzoho who beat it away for a corner kick. Ghana also had another chance saved in the 70th minute.
Nigeria will head into the return leg hoping to replicate the 2001 feat that saw them draw away to Ghana before beating them 3-0 in Nigeria during the qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup.
