At least twenty coal miners have been killed in southwestern Pakistan during a nighttime assault by a group of heavily armed men who besieged their accommodations, according to police reports on Friday.

The attack, which began around 12:30 AM (1930 GMT Thursday), involved up to 40 assailants who unleashed gunfire on the miners for approximately half an hour before fleeing the scene, as confirmed by Asim Shafi, the police chief of the Duki district where the incident occurred.

Kaleemullah Kakar, a senior government official in the district, also verified the number of casualties.
