A 200-Level student of Department of Political Science, Akwa Ibom State University, AKSU, main campus, Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area, identified as Mr. Jimmy Emem, has been reportedly killed by hoodlums, while trying to protect his GSM phones and other belongings from been snatched.
It was gathered that Emem was attacked and shot last Thursday at about 9p.m. along Wilson Idiong Street, off Ikot Okoro Road, in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
Head, Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol AKSU, Mr Akaninyene Ibanga, yesterday, in Uyo, said Jimmy Emem later died Saturday afternoon following the gunshot.
He said: “Late Emem was shot on Thursday, May 2, between the hours of 8.30 and 9p.m. at Wilson Idiong Street, off Ikot Okoro Road, Obioakpa, Oruk Anam Local Government Area in an attempt to resist unknown gunmen from snatching his phone and was rushed immediately to the hospital for treatment.
“The university management took over the hospital bills just to save his life, but on Saturday late Emem could not survive the struggle with death. So he finally passed on at about 12.30p.m.”
The management while assuring members of the university community of their safety, condemned the recent reports of act of cultism and other vices in the university campuses.
It said: “The Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University on behalf of management, staff and students expresses his deep sadness over the unfortunate demise of Jimmy Emem, a 200 level male student of Political Science Department.
“The Vice-Chancellor, hereby, condoles with members of the family of the deceased.”
