2021 Budget: NASS Will Ensure Prudent Use of Loans – Lawan

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would see to the prudent utilisation of loans taken.

He stated this at the State House, Abuja on Thursday when responding to questions from journalists about the Federal Government’s use of ₦3 trillion to service debts in the 2020 budget and President Muhammadu Buhari’s plans to take more loans.

While noting that borrowing is a natural option when revenue is low, the Lawan said the parliament would work with the executive to ensure that such funds were meant for the nation’s capital development for the benefits of Nigerians.

“Whatever request that will come to the National Assembly for borrowing, we must as a National Assembly ensure that such funds when borrowed will be applied on capital projects for the development of the country,” he added.

Eko Hot Blog gathers that the Senate President’s remark follows President Buhari’s assent to the 2021 budget and the finance bill.
