A debate to commence impeachment proceedings for a record second time against US President, Donald Trump, over his role in last week’s attack on Congress, is underway at the House of Representatives.
According to the BBC, democrats are accusing the president of encouraging his supporters to attack the Capitol building an Invasion that left five people died in its wake.
Members of Trump’s Republican party are also joining the Democrats to impeach him, charging the president with inciting insurrection.
The House’s resolution states: “President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government. He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government. He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”
Trump has however rejected any responsibility for the violence.
The riot last Wednesday happened after Trump told supporters at a rally in Washington DC to “fight like hell” against the result of November’s election.
