A military base in Borno has been captured by Boko Haram after the insurgents dislodged troops following an exchange of fire.
According to AFP news agency, Boko-Haram terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State jihadists overran the Nigerian forces at the military base in the town of Marte near Lake Chad on Friday.
The attack comes less than 24-hour after the federal government claimed that the insurgents have been weakened and that no territory is under the control of Boko-Haram.
Femi Adesina, a spokesman to President Muhammadu Buhari had in an article last Thursday said that Nigerians are to be blamed for the perennial insecurity in many parts of the country because they failed to offer prayers for front-line soldiers.
“Victory is from God alone. That is what we must realise as Nigerians. Do we ever pray for our troops in the frontlines? Do we remember those youths, our pride, and strength, faced by death daily, as we sleep in the comfort of our homes, ensconced in the tender bosom of our wives?” Adesina queried.
But contrary to Adesina’s claim, not many Nigerians sleep in with their eyes closed.
Terrorists have continued to unleash terror on many villages and towns in the Northern part of the country including the president’s home town in Daura.

Despite the perennial insecurity and incessant killings, the Nigerian government has continued to insist that it had decimated Boko Haram and ended insurgency and terrorism with little or no results to substantiate their claims.
