EKO HOT BLOG reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has plans to file a lawsuit against its lawmakers in the National Assembly threatening to dump the party ahead of the 2023 race.
The move of the ruling party is to suspend the lawmakers from the party if they decide to defect.
With the National Assembly resuming on Tuesday, some lawmakers in the ruling party might announce their defection.
The lawmakers had expressed displeasure after failing to secure the ticket of the party during primaries.
President Muhammadu Buhari had persuaded the aggrieved lawmakers to remain in the party, assuring that their grievances would be addressed.
APC NWC after the meeting, however, threatened that the defecting lawmakers would forfeit their seats.
Despite meeting with President Buhari, eight senators under the party have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and other political parties.
The National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu in an interview on Arise TV said he was not aware of the plans of the lawmakers to dump the party.
He said, “I am not aware of the defection. It is fake news. This is a political season and not all politicians will accept the outcome of everything.”
Sources that spoke with Daily Sun said the move to suspend the defecting lawmakers was proposed by the party leadership.
The sources further stated that President Buhari must support the proposal before it could be implemented.
A source said, “The plan may, however, hit the rocks, if President Buhari, who is the leader of the party, doesn’t approve the move.”
Another source revealed that the move was decided before the Osun State governorship election.
He, however, said the defeat of the party in Osun, might increase the pressure on President Buhari to sanction the proposal.
