EKO HOT BLOG reports that Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has come out to declare the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar as the cleanest amongst his counterparts running for the presidential race.
Omokri, while comparing Atiku to the presidential candidates of the two contending parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP), described Atiku as clean in terms of a corruption scandal.
The former presidential aide in a post on the micro-blogging platform Twitter said both Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi have faced corruption scandals at different times.
His reaction follows a recent document that surfaced on social media about Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 by an Illinois court in the US.
It was previously reported that the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois had identified Tinubu as a defendant in a court case accusing him of involvement in drug trafficking, according to a viral document.
The document contained evidence of Tinubu’s alleged involvement in narcotics and money laundering about 30 years ago.
The matter, which was said to have ended in a settlement, led to Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 in one of the accounts linked to the former governor.
The APC spokesperson of the Atiku/Okowa campaign organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan debunked the report asking Nigerians not to pay attention to such rumours.
Omokri also said Obi has allegedly been dragged into a corruption scandal in the Pandora Papers.
On this premise, the former presidential aide asserted that Atiku remained the only one with clean records and no scandal to his name.
He noted that even though Atiku is Nigeria’s most investigated politician, he has never been found wanting.
He wrote “Atiku Abubakar is Nigeria’s most investigated politician in Nigeria, yet he has never been found wanting. He is not the subject of criminal forfeiture of drug money, like Tinubu, or mentioned in the Pandora Papers for corruption, like Peter Obi.’’
