2023 Elections: Corp Members Should Be Better Protected — NYSC DG Appeals

The Director General of the National Youth Service, Brig Gen YD Ahmed has asked for increased protection for youth corps members serving in electoral polling stations.

This follows the threats to security witnessed in the February 25th elections where violence was witnessed.

The DG stressed that the NYSC members were neutrals in the electoral process, hence should be granted maximum security.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen YD Ahmed, has called for increased security for corps members serving as electoral officers during the upcoming gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections. He made this appeal during advocacy visits to various security agencies in Bauchi State.
The Director General stressed that the NYSC members were neutral participants in the electoral process and deserve maximum security from every stakeholder. “I am appealing for maximum security for our corps members during and after the governorship and State House of Assembly elections, even [at] their Corps Lodges,” General Ahmed said.

The NYSC Director General visited the Bauchi State Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Malam Hussein Bukani Abdullahi, the Brigade Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade in Bauchi, Brig Gen E. Egbe, the Bauchi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Amen Edo James, and the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan.
Brig. Gen. Egbe assured the NYSC Director General that arrangements had been made to ensure that all corps members are fully protected from danger during the elections. He lauded the NYSC Director General for his visit and five-point policy thrust, which involves the security and welfare of Corps Members.
The Bauchi State DSS Director, Malam Hussein Bukani Abdullahi, also assured the NYSC Director General of a stronger synergy between all the security agencies in the state. He added that all hands are on deck to provide stronger security for all corps members in the state up till post-election period.
The Bauchi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Ameh Edo James, reiterated the readiness of the corps to offer security to all NYSC members on election duties. He described the corps members as part of the critical infrastructure and national assets of the Federal Government.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, also assured the NYSC Director General of the Police Command’s readiness to ensure the security of NYSC members in every location throughout the nooks and crannies of the state.
