2023: ‘What I Will Do To Turn Nigeria Around If Elected Into Power’—Peter Obi
During an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, on Friday, the minister refused to name his preference between his party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Responding to a question by the host, Ngige said it was “difficult” for him to publicly name his choice because both men are his friends.
He also noted that his focus is currently on governance, not politics.
“I have told you that I’m not active in politics. I’m not active in politics for now because I am facing a national assignment,” the minister said.
“Both of them are my friends. My choice will be in the ballot box. Whether conscience or no conscience, on that day in February, I’ll have one vote.”
According to Ngige, he does not need to tell Nigerians what he would do secretly.
“It is a secret ballot, and I shouldn’t tell Nigerians what I would do secretly,” he said.
“Both men and their track records are good, but you must go into the nitty-gritty of your analysis.
“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu came to Lagos when there was nothing. I lived in Lagos so I can tell you. He did what he was supposed to do and reformed the financial system, and built a solid foundation and roadmap for his successors.”
The one-time governor of Anambra added that Obi built on the foundation he laid as governor.
“For the first tenure, he did not do infrastructure, but then he realised that it was a grievous mistake,” he said.
