EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has pledged to unify Nigeria plunged into disunity by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government.
Atiku was declared winner of the PDP Presidential primary election late Saturday night after polling 371 votes to defeat 11 other aspirants.
In his acceptance speech, Atiku said the PDP was making another history that would bring about fundamental changes in governance and political processes.
“We have witnessed another one of the freest elections to be conducted by our great party, today marks another milestone in the process of consolidating our democratic gains,” he said.
The former Vice President said on the 23rd of March this year, when he declared his intention to vie for the presidency, he made a commitment to fight issues, one of which was to unify this country.
“That is why I referred to myself as a unifier. Unity is very important for us, the government of the APC has disunited Nigeria completely, from North to South, Muslims and Christians and I pledge to restore unity irrespective of the state of origin and religion.
“I pledge to deal with insecurity and economic challenges caused by the APC government,” he said, adding that the PDP brought about economic prosperity in Nigeria and that the APC came to destroy it. Today, it will give us the opportunity to reverse the misgovernance of the APC government,” he added.
Atiku said he was ready to work and cooperate with his fellow contestants and give them a sense of belonging in the PDP government.
“It was a well-fought primary election, I looked forward to working with you so that we can build this party to a level where we can take over the government,” he said.
