The Ijebu Council of Traditional Rulers in Lagos State has urged the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu to officially throw his hat in the ring in contention for the forthcoming 2023 Presidential Election in Nigeria.
The council disclosed this in a statement after a meeting held on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at the Adeboruwa Palace in Igbogbo, Lagos State.
The council noted that while it remains apolitical in disposition, it however remains a keen observer of political events, which is the driving force behind calling on the former Lagos State Governor to once again deploy his rich political sagacity to the benefit of all Nigerians.
“The Ijebu Obas Forum in Lagos State is apolitical but it is a keen watcher of political events and takes interest to follow political developments as all economic and social opportunities, policies and programmes that affect the lives of people particularly the youth are products of the political office holders,” the council said in a statement issued by the chairman, Lagos State Ijebu Obas Forum, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotori, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu.
The council observed that with the rising tide of insecurity, unemployment, political instability and the unending socio-political crisis bedevilling Nigeria at the moment, the country could use Asiwaju’s proven leadership credentials at such a time as this.
Also present at the resolution were high ranking public officials from Lagos State, Federal and State lawmakers, LCDA Chairmen who all espoused the notion that the ruling party’s national leader presents Nigeria’s most realistic chance of achieving credible and accountable leadership within the next presidential dispensation.
Top public functionaries at the event were Hon. Wale Raji, Member Representing Epe Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Tobun Abiodun, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusola Desmond Elliot, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly and a host of other prominent government officials drawn across the length and breadth of Lagos State.

In an interview with EKO HOT BLOG after the resolution, Hon. Wale Raji said that the notion of urging Asiwaju to throw his hat in the ring ahead of the 2023 Presidential election was a well thought one. He cited Asiwaju’s massive strides during his eight years stint as Lagos State Governor as necessary logic to substantiate the fact that “Jagaban” has all the leadership acumen it takes to steer Nigeria towards the path of greatness.
Officially, Tinubu is yet to declare his intention of running for the 2023 Presidential election, even though his actions recently appears to be speaking louder than words, with some political observers opining that his recent love affair with certain powerful players in the Northern political caucus may not be unconnected with subtle moves geared towards strengthening his bond with political allies ahead of the much anticipated 2023 Presidential Election race.
