Jonathan has revealed details of his closed door meeting with Peter Obi.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has shared some insights about his discussion with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi, and his team on Friday.
This online media platform recalls Jonathan and Obi held a closed-door meeting at the residence of the former president in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Friday.
Giving highlights of what they discussed, Jonathan in a personally signed statement released via his Twitter handle said he stressed the need to keep Nigeria united.
He added that whoever becomes the next President in 2023 must work towards uniting the nation for progress to be made.
The former President also called on all political parties to conduct peaceful campaigns and play their part in ensuring a credible 2023 election in the country.
He wrote: “Today I received in audience members of the Presidential Campaign Council of the @NgLabour led by its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
“I reiterated that to move Nigeria forward, we all must see it as our own country and believe in the unity of the nation.
“Whoever becomes the next president must work towards uniting the nation.
“I also stressed on the need for a credible election and urge the Labour Party and all other parties and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully.”
Similarly, the spokesperson of the Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Keneth Okonkwo acknowledged they were well received by former President Jonathan.
He added that Obi, during the visit, appreciated Jonathan for his fatherly reception and accommodating spirit.
He wrote: “President Goodluck Jonathan commended the campaign strategy of @PeterObi and Datti. He called them good men who have the interest of Nigeria at heart.
“He urged them to continue to be peaceful in their campaign as this will unite Nigeria.
“Obi thanked him for the fatherly reception.”
He added that, “The Former President of Nigeria the good man Goodluck Jonathan and the incoming President of Nigeria @PeterObi met at the residence of the Former President in Yenagoa.
“Jonathan thanked Obi for being peaceful and not divisive and believes that such attitude will help unite Nigeria.”
