EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a major development, the Southwest chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has decided to dissolve its entire structure and join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was taken at a meeting held in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, where the party leadership, including former Southwest LP Chairman Omotoso Banji, came together to make the announcement.
The meeting was attended by other prominent leaders of the LP, including Omowumi Olosola, the Ondo Secretary of LP, and Sola Alabi. The leaders expressed their reasons for the defection, citing the need to join forces with the APC to drive forward the progressive agenda in the region.
The collapse of the LP structure in the Southwest is a significant blow to the party, which has been struggling to make inroads in the region. The defection of the party leaders to the APC is expected to strengthen the ruling party’s position in the region and provide it with a much-needed boost ahead of upcoming elections.
The decision to collapse the LP structure into the APC has been met with mixed reactions, with some political observers welcoming the move as a positive step towards ensuring political stability and progress in the region, while others view it as a setback for the LP and a blow to democracy.
Regardless of the varying opinions, it is clear that the defection of the Southwest LP leaders to the APC marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the region and will have far-reaching implications for the future.
