2023: PDP Will ‘Democratise Its Primaries’ In South-East
Chief Ali Odefa, the Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the South East geopolitical region, has vowed that the party’s leadership will democratize the primaries ahead of the 2023 elections.
Members of the PDP in Ebonyi State, on the other hand, have been tasked by Chief Odefa to never allow themselves to be bullied, essentially in securing their meetings.
He said this at the party’s Stakeholders meeting on Monday in Salt Lake, Abakiliki, the state capital.
“One great advantage you have over them is that in our party, we will democratize the process of primaries. Everybody will have a level playing field to contest.
“I also want to empower you; don’t be threatened or afraid; call your meetings, mobilize your people, and protect your meetings; they won’t do anything,” he added.
Odefa also claimed that the South-East remains a PDP stronghold, with the party concentrating on fixing all anomalies affecting the party in the region.
“We are reaching out to people, and the outcome is what happened in Aba, Abia State, as we all witnessed. Politics isn’t about yelling. We are not obnoxious, but we are focused,” he said.
Elder Fred Udeogu, the Caretaker Chairman of the Party in the State, urged the state governor to facilitate a peaceful surrender of all party assets in his possession, including the party secretariat, in an interview with journalists.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen Anyim Pius-Anyim, the first civilian Governor of the State and Senator representing Ebonyi North Dr Sam Egwu, Sen Obinna Ogba, and Sen Amah Nnachi were among those who attended the meeting.
