2023: Tinubu Henchmen Flag Off Presidential Campaign On His Behalf

2023 general election might be some three years away but for politicians eyeing the highest office in the nation, it does not look like a period that offers a great recess or plenty of time to drag foot in the face of intent to rise beyond current political position.

In view of the above, the loyalists and supporters of Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have launched a presidential campaign council for him ahead of the 2023 general election.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the development is coming barely 24-hour after loyalists of the APC national leader led by Dayo Adeyeye, former minister of state for works, visited Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, on Monday.

The group did not mince word over their visit to the first class monarch as they categorically stated that they were at the Palace for political reasons.

They disclosed that they came to seek support for the 2023 presidential ambition of Tinubu.

Subsequently, the group was said to have went on to set up a presidential campaign council on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, to canvass for support and push for Tinubu’s candidature.

The campaign council tagged, ‘The South-West Agenda’, was said to include Musiliu Obanikoro, former minister of defence; Adesoji Akanbi, senator representing Oyo south; and Abayomi Ogunnusi, former house of representatives member.

Adeyeye said there was a written and unwritten agreement that power would return to the Yoruba upon the completion of President Muhammadu Buhari two terms, 8 year tenure.

He described Tinubu as a joker who has the clout, experience and political mileage to emerge president.

“Our mission is political. Politics has started and everyone is scrambling. We, the Yoruba people, see it as our turn because it is the agreement that presidency would be rotational,” Adeyeye had said.

“We have both written and unwritten contracts. After President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years, it is the turn of the Yoruba.

“In the south, we have south-east, south-south and south-west. We have a joker in the south-west and the joker is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was part of the struggle for democracy. There are fundamentals of governance and we want someone who is versed in politics to go into the race. We see that Asiwaju Tinubu has the clout and he is qualified.”
