Umahi has placed a ban on political rallies in schools ahead of the 2023 election.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has placed a ban on any form of political rallies in all the state’s primary and secondary schools starting from November 1, 2022, ahead of the 2023 general election.

This online media platform gathered that Umahi said the ban affects all political parties including the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, political parties must get approval from the Commissioner of Education before any such rally can hold in any school space.

Umahi, who announced the ban yesterday in Abakaliki during the state citizens’ input for the 2023 budget estimate, explained that the ban resulted from reports that people destroy school facilities, by defecating and other filthy activities during such rallies.

The governor also restricted the movement of motorbikes popularly known as Okada in the state from 7 pm to 6 am, saying it was part of efforts to secure the lives and properties of citizens.

He added that the move was necessary because reports indicate that criminals use motorcycles to commit crimes.

Umahi said, “The Attorney-General will come up with executive order banning motorcycles in every part of the State from 7 pm to 6 am. If you want to use it, use it before 7 pm. We have to do everything to secure your lives.

“When we take hard decisions it is because we have to take it. The primary responsibility of government is to secure lives and property, so you must make sacrifices to do it.

“From November 1, 2022, no rallies in schools whether primary schools or secondary schools. If you must hold rallies there, you must apply to Commissioner for Education and he must give you permission because when you do rallies in these places and mess it up with faeces and other dearths, who will clean it?
