The opposition party in Lagos State began a grassroots campaign to reach artisans in the state ahead of the 2023 general election in Nigeria.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Olajide Adediran, better known as Jandor, has pleaded with the artisans in the state to consider his ambition.

Jandor met with the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Epe Chapter, and Nigeria Union of Tailors (NUT), Epe Chapter, in different sessions.

The PDP candidate pleaded for support from the artisans adding that his administration would create an enabling environment if elected into office.

“I promise to create an enabling environment and infrastructure that would aid their businesses in this area and all other riverine communities in the state.”

“All we need is your support for all the PDP candidates from the presidential election to the state assembly elections.”

Jandor told NATA members that his government would protect the interest of all artisans and implement policies that would help grow their businesses.

He stressed that NATA workshop can be developed to repair all state government utility vehicles. This, he said, will put money in the pocket of the artisans.

In his words, “There is nothing bad in the state government directing all its agencies to be repairing their utility vehicles in NATA’s workshops across the state and the government footing the bills.”

“By this way, the government is putting money into the artisans’ pocket. That is part of economic empowerment we are talking about.”

“That is what our government stands for. We are going to run people-oriented government,” he said.

While speaking to members of NUT in Epe, Jandor said his administration will operate an inclusive government to plan compulsory free education with free school uniforms.

In a reaction, the Chairman of NUT, Mr Rasheed Borokini, noted that it was surprising for a governorship candidate to the union.

“It is surprising that a governorship candidate could deemed it fit to visit us. The union has never witnessed it since its inception in Epe,” Borokini said.

Borokini further stressed that the union members are not politicians but stakeholders that are committed to the development of Lagos state.

According to reports the PDP candidate also visited the non-Indigenes, students and women groups in Igboye, Naforija and Epe environs where he promised to attend to their needs.

“I am aware of the challenges facing the riverine and non-Yoruba-speaking residents. We are giving you our words, we will not disappoint you, nor fail you,” he said.

In a similar development, PDP’s deputy governorship candidate and Jandor’s running mate, Funke Akindele, visited markets in Lagos to solicit support.

Some of the markets include Ayetoro Market and Oluwo Modern Fish Market.

Since the campaign train of the Lagos PDP candidate began on October 19, they have visited several local governments to meet with stakeholders.
