2023: Wike Distances Self From Presidential Campaign Posters
Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, says the presidential campaign poster announcing his intention to run for the highest political office in the country are not at his behest and he had no prior knowledge of them.
Ekohotblog had reported how Presidential campaign posters of the governor were seen in the central business district (CBD) of Abuja on Monday.
The posters had the inscription, ‘Rescue Nigeria 2023 from insecurity, poverty, bandits, killing’.
Reacting to the development, Wike, in a statement by Paulinus Nsirim, Rivers commissioner of information said the posters were the work of political detractors and mischief makers.
Wike said he had not made known to anyone his interest in vying for the presidency.
According to Nsirim, the Governor’s priority was making Rivers “a better place and Destination of Choice.”
“The attention of Governor Nyesom Wike has been drawn to campaign posters bearing his name which flooded some major streets of Abuja today,” he said.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Wike has not informed anyone that he is interested in the Presidency of this country. This is certainly the handiwork of mischief makers who are threatened by the Governor’s rising political profile.
According to the statement, the Rivers state government was astonished that ‘political detractors’ would do everything they could to derail the train of progress fuelled by Wike’s visionary leadership.
“For the umpteenth time, we wish to restate that Governor Wike is presently preoccupied with his mission to make Rivers State a better place and Destination of Choice.
Nsirim, who described the posters as the infantile schemes of ‘political jobbers’ geared towards causing rancour and instigating tension in the polity, called on Members of the public to disregard the misinformation that is currently making the rounds in the nation’s capital.
