2023: Your Endorsement Can’t Save Sanwo-Olu From Losing, Lagos PDP Tells Wike

Lagos PDP has told Wike that his endorsement won’t save Sanwo-Olu from losing in the 2023 governorship election.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Lagos State has criticised Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for backing the reelection campaign of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Recall that Wike had crossed party lines and offered his support to Sanwo-Olu earlier on Tuesday while speaking at a conference organised by the wives of Lagos state officials.

Wike, a member of the PDP, said he was in support of Sanwo-Olu‘s administration because he is “doing well”.

The Rivers governor, who’s currently on bad terms with his party’s national leadership, said he would not regret his support of the Lagos governor.

“If Sanwo-Olu is not doing well, even if he belongs to my party, I won’t come. So, for me, if you are in my party and you are not doing well, you won’t see me. If you are not in my party and you are doing well, you will see me and that is what I stand for. And I will not regret to say that I’m in support of you,” the former presidential aspirant said.

Reacting to Wike’s endorsement of Sanwo-Olu in a statement, Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, suggested that the Rivers governor’s support is inconsequential, saying only God and Lagosians will determine the state governor’s “fate” in the 2023 elecion.

According to Amode, the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos, Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, won the party’s nomination without Wike’s support despite his “supposed might” within the party.

The Lagos PDP spokesman promised the Rivers governor that the party will render Sanwo-Olu jobless in 2023.

“I only wonder how Governor Wike, who didn’t support Jandor and at the same time couldn’t stop him from picking the party ticket in Lagos, despite his supposed might within the PDP, would apportion to himself the decision of generality of Lagosians in the forthcoming election,” the statement reads.

“While we won’t but acknowledge Governor Wike’s developmental strides in Rivers State which have witnessed an influx of other state chief executives, including Sanwo-Olu, for commissioning, it is worrisome that Wike will call Sanwo-Olu a performer without asking how many times he has invited anyone to Lagos for the commissioning of an ordinary borehole in his almost four years in office as Governor.

“My dear Governor and leader, we promise to render Sanwo-Olu jobless and send him to the club of former Governors next year.

“Only God, who has seen Jandor and Lagos PDP this far, and the generality of Lagosians, can determine his fate at the polls in 2023, not your endorsement.

“We will continue to sell our breath of fresh air agenda to Lagosians with the promise of a better tomorrow. Lagos needs a breath of fresh air!”
