EKO HOT BLOG reports that Roma’s exclusion paved the way for Barcelona’s promotion to Pot 1. This marks the second consecutive season the Spanish giants find themselves in the top seeding pot, despite finishing below Roma in UEFA’s five-year performance ranking. Juventus secured the crucial fourth-place Serie A finish, sending Roma into the Europa League.
UEFA allocates Pot 1 spots to the reigning Champions League title holders and the eight clubs with the highest European performance rankings over the past five seasons. With Roma ranked ninth and disqualified, Barcelona—ranked tenth—steps up to Pot 1.
Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Internazionale, and Borussia Dortmund also feature in the elite Pot 1 category. However, seeding does not guarantee separation, as Pot 1 teams can still face each other in the league phase draw.
