2025 AFCON: Super Eagles Grab Late Winner Against Libya

Substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru netted the decisive goal as the Super Eagles secured a 1-0 victory over Libya in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday in Uyo.

Nigeria started the match with confidence, dominating possession but struggling to create clear scoring opportunities.

Alex Iwobi produced the first real chance for the Super Eagles, only to be denied by Libya’s goalkeeper, Murad Al Wuheeshi.

The pressure on the Libyan defense intensified, with Al Wuheeshi making another crucial save to block an attempt from Ademola Lookman. Captain William Troost-Ekong missed a close-range shot just before the half-hour mark.

Libya focused on defense, with Al Wuheeshi once again stopping a powerful strike from Iwobi in the 40th minute. Play was briefly interrupted after the break as the Libyan goalkeeper required treatment for an injury.

Despite several missed chances from Nigeria, Dele-Bashiru finally broke the deadlock five minutes from full-time, slotting home after receiving a well-placed pass from Moses Simon.
