According to a statement released on Monday by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Umobong, and signed on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, members of both councils have been invited to participate either physically or virtually.
“The meetings aim to discuss matters of national importance and key issues affecting national security and policing. The Council of State meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., while the Police Council meeting will hold at 2:00 p.m.,” the statement read.

The Council of State, chaired by the President, serves as an advisory body made up of former Presidents, former Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation. It provides guidance on major policy decisions, particularly those related to national security and governance.
The Police Council, on the other hand, oversees the organisation, administration, and operational control of the Nigeria Police Force, including the appointment and discipline of senior officers.
Presidency sources confirmed that both meetings will review ongoing military and security operations, assess strategies to combat rising insecurity, and consider fresh measures to improve coordination among security agencies.
The agenda is also expected to include deliberations on key administrative matters, such as the appointment of a successor to the outgoing Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and updates on economic recovery plans.
The meetings come shortly after President Tinubu’s return to Abuja on Monday evening from a 10-day working visit to Lagos, where he held strategic engagements with investors, development partners, and political stakeholders.
While in Lagos, the President met with business leaders including Bayo Ogunlesi, CEO of Global Infrastructure Partners, and Keem Belo-Osagie, Chairman of Metis Capital Partners, to discuss expanding investments in infrastructure, energy, and logistics, key sectors for economic diversification and job creation.
He also hosted the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, where discussions centred on developing Nigeria’s blue economy as a sustainable alternative to oil dependence.
Before returning to Abuja, Tinubu visited Oyo, Imo, and Plateau States for various national engagements. During a condolence visit to Jos, at the funeral of the late mother of APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the President reaffirmed his commitment to unity and peace, saying:
“My mission is to unite this country and ensure its prosperity. Progress is being made on both fronts.”
