Resident doctors across Nigeria have been instructed to hand over their patients to appropriate medical personnel before November 1, 2025, ahead of an indefinite nationwide strike.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the directive, issued on Sunday, October 26, 2025, follows the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum earlier given to the federal government to meet the association’s demands.

According to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) President, Mohammad Suleiman, the strike decision came after a five-hour meeting of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Saturday.

In a statement released Sunday, Suleiman said NARD is demanding a 200 per cent increase in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the immediate implementation of new allowances proposed in July 2022.
He also called for the urgent recruitment of clinical staff and the removal of bureaucratic obstacles preventing the replacement of retiring doctors.
The NARD president added that a “strike monitoring team” has been deployed to ensure full compliance, alongside the introduction of a ‘no work, no pay/no pay, no work’ policy.

Suleiman further directed all National Officers Committee (NOC) members, chapter presidents, and secretaries to convene emergency congress meetings to brief members on the resolutions reached by the NEC.
He warned government officials and agencies to refrain from any manipulative attempts to undermine the association’s stance.
