Former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has strongly denied rumors suggesting he has resigned from the party.
In a firm rebuttal issued on Friday, April 4, 2025, Atiku described the report as completely false and the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to create confusion within the political landscape.

The denial was conveyed in a statement released by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, who described the rumor as a calculated political attack driven by desperate elements.
The statement clarified that Atiku remains a committed and loyal member of the PDP, emphasizing that he has no intention of abandoning the party he has supported for decades.
“We ordinarily would not dignify unverified social media platforms such as the so-called ‘Adamawa Happenings’ with a response,” the statement read. “However, due to numerous inquiries from well-meaning Nigerians, party faithful, and members of the media, we are compelled to set the record straight.”
“Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President (1999–2007) and flagbearer of the PDP in the last presidential election, has not—let us reiterate, has not—resigned from the PDP. He continues to be a proud and active member of the party and remains steadfast in his commitment to its core principles and values.”
The statement attributed the source of the misinformation to a Facebook page engaged in spreading deliberate lies. According to Ibe, the page is being used by political operatives whose aim is to mislead the public and destabilize the PDP ahead of critical national events.
“This malicious fabrication is nothing more than a political hatchet job designed to mislead Nigerians and distract from the real issues affecting the nation. It is a shameless, desperate attempt by those who fear Atiku Abubakar’s influence and leadership.”

Supporters of the former Vice President were urged to remain calm and ignore the false claims, as the PDP stalwart remains fully aligned with the party’s mission of advancing democracy and national development.
“Atiku is fully focused on championing the democratic aspirations of the Nigerian people. He remains undeterred by such cowardly tactics and more committed than ever to rebuilding Nigeria through the PDP platform,” the statement concluded.
