EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Saturday night in Abuja at the Women Icon Leader of the Year 2025 award ceremony hosted by Accolade Dynamics Limited, Patience Jonathan said her political days in the Presidential Villa are over, and she is firmly backing her longtime friend, Oluremi Tinubu.
“I’m not running, and I’m not going back to the villa,” she said emphatically. “If you call me, I will not go. I stand by my friend. My friend is great. I told her I would campaign with her. I’m not denying her.”
She emphasized her belief in the principle of rotational leadership, describing it as key to sustaining unity across Nigeria’s diverse political landscape.
Reflecting on her longstanding relationship with Senator Tinubu, Patience Jonathan said their friendship goes back to their early days as wives of deputy governors and governors, long before their husbands became president and vice president respectively.
“We worked together when I was deputy governor’s wife and when I was governor’s wife. Even when my husband became vice president, Oluremi stood with her husband and supported us during our first election. They supported us. So, for me, I have a conscience. I cannot abandon my friend,” she said.
Jonathan also commended Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria and daughter of the President, for her consistent support for Nigerian women.
“Iyaloja, thank you for standing with women, because these are your women. Carry them along; they are with you. All the way, we are with you. No shaking. We will follow. Direct us, and we will follow,” she said.

The former First Lady, known for her outspoken nature, added humor and warmth to her speech, joking about how peaceful her life is now.
“People say, ‘Mama, you are young!’ It is because I have rest of mind. I don’t want to go there — let my friend be there. Let me also ‘wahala’ her the way she used to ‘wahala’ me when I was there!”
