222 Dead, 779 Injured in Oyo Road Crashes – FRSC
Road Crashes in Oyo State: 2024 Report
- Lives Lost: 222 people died in road crashes.
- Injuries: 779 individuals were injured.
- Number of Crashes: 304 accidents occurred across 33 local councils in Oyo State.
Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rosemary Alo, shared these figures in a recent statement. She pointed out that compared to 2023, there has been a decrease in the number of crashes, thanks to the Command’s efforts.
Alo praised the ongoing work of her team in reducing accidents but emphasized that much still needs to be done. Despite public awareness campaigns, many drivers and road users continue to engage in risky behaviors like overspeeding and driving with worn-out tyres. These bad habits remain the leading causes of accidents in Oyo state.
Call for Safer Roads
The Sector Commander urged drivers and all road users to follow traffic rules. She explained that positive changes in attitudes toward road safety could prevent many crashes.
“We are doing our best to inform people about the dangers of reckless driving,” she said. “But we need motorists to take road safety seriously by obeying traffic laws. This will help reduce accidents even further.”
The FRSC, Oyo state continues to appeal to the public to prioritize safety and make responsible choices while using the roads.
