Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has successfully prosecuted 27 miscreants for obstructing pedestrian bridges across Lagos.
According to a statement by LAGESC Corps Marshal, Major Olatunbosun Olaniyi Cole (Rtd), the recent sentences are part of efforts to remove criminals blocking bridges, forcing residents to cross highways unsafely.
Cole said the enforcement exercise was carried out through raids on the Oshodi, Ladipo, PWD, Bolade, and National pedestrian bridges.
The convicts were arraigned before Chief Magistrate S.A Adefioye at the Special Offences Mobile Court Oshodi on a two-count charge. They were found guilty and sentenced to five months imprisonment.
“The recent successful prosecution of these criminally-minded individuals is a testament to the resolve of KAI to ensure that there is total compliance with provisions of the law to ensure pedestrians’ safety across major highways in Lagos State,” Cole stated.
The LAGESC General Manager declared there would be “no hiding place for miscreants fond of dispossessing pedestrians of their property.” He advised residents to use the bridges to ensure their safety.
