Dangote Refinery has stated that it has not yet received the 29 million barrels of crude oil that the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) claimed to have allocated to the refinery.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the company expressed its desire for Nigerian refineries to be allowed to purchase crude oil directly from local producers, as mandated by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

In a statement released on Friday, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Refinery, criticized the NUPRC for its inability to enforce domestic crude supply obligations to Nigerian refineries, as required by the PIA.
“We acknowledge NUPRC’s announcement that they have facilitated the allocation of 29 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.
While we appreciate this, we must clarify that we have not yet received these cargoes.
Apart from the term supply negotiated directly with NNPC, NUPRC has only facilitated the purchase of one crude cargo from a domestic producer.
The remaining crude we have processed was bought from international traders,” the statement read.
Chiejina emphasized the refinery’s request for the ability to purchase crude directly from Nigerian producers rather than through international intermediaries, as specified in the PIA.

He also expressed disappointment with NUPRC’s admission that it may be unable to enforce this domestic crude supply obligation, citing the “sanctity of contracts” as a reason for this limitation.
