In this part of the world, taking soft and sugary drinks on a regular basis is a sign of living ‘luxurious.’
So many engage in it without thinking about the ugly side effects it can cause to the body.
Some are so addicted to taking soft drinks that they can’t have a meal without it.
Added sugar found in most soft drinks does not have any nutritional benefits. They only have extra calories, which have adverse effects on your health.
In this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we will be looking at some side effects of taking soft drinks regularly.
1. Weight Gain
Some people argue that they take soft drinks after a meal to make them feel ‘satisfied’. The fact is that fructose contained in soft drinks do not lower hunger hormone or stimulate fullness like glucose found in starchy foods. However, they only increase your calorie intake, which makes you gain weight.
2. Excess Liver fat
High amounts of sugar turn into fats in your liver. The sugar component, fructose found in soft drinks, can only be broken down in the liver. Sugary drinks are very high in fructose. When they are consumed in excess, your liver becomes overloaded and turns the fructose into fats. Some of these fats remain in the liver for a long period causing liver problems.
3. Addiction
Some eventually get addicted to drinking soft drinks and crave consuming them on a daily basis.
The excessive consumption of soft drinks works on your brain like hard drugs; once you start it, it becomes hard to break the cycle.
