According to reports the troops were advancing towards an ISWAP camp in Tunbum Reza when they came under ambush.

The terrorists employed a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) in their attack. The joint troops swiftly responded with superior firepower, successfully defending themselves against the ambush.

During the engagement, one of the VBIEDs struck a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle (MRAPV) belonging to Nigérienne Republic troops from Sector 4 of the MNJTF, while the other targeted a hilux truck.

As a result of the attack, three soldiers lost their lives, and ten others sustained injuries. The wounded personnel were promptly evacuated for medical treatment.

Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, corroborated the information, highlighting that the troops effectively fought off the ambush and inflicted significant casualties on the ISWAP terrorists.

However, the exact number of casualties on the terrorist side is yet to be determined.

The recent attack occurred less than 24 hours after the troops successfully thwarted a similar assault in Arege, resulting in the death of ten ISWAP terrorists and the destruction of three enemy vehicles.

The ISWAP militants attempted to infiltrate the troops’ position by employing a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) but were swiftly neutralized.

ISWAP, faced with the military’s increased incursions into their enclaves, has resorted to desperate and extreme measures to fight back.

They have escalated their attacks, employing Person-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (PBIEDs) and Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) in their attempts to counter the military’s advance.

The loss of three soldiers and the injuries sustained by ten others serve as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by the troops as they work diligently to combat terrorism and restore peace to the region.
